How far in advance do I need to schedule respite?

We recommend scheduling planned respite at least one to two weeks in advance to ensure staff availability. However, we also accommodate shorter-notice requests and offer emergency respite when possible.

Can respite care happen in our home?

Yes. Respite can take place in the individual's home, in the community, or a combination of both. Many families prefer in-home respite so their loved one stays in a familiar, comfortable environment.

Will my loved one have the same respite provider each time?

We do our best to maintain consistent staffing for respite, as familiarity builds trust and comfort. When scheduling allows, we match individuals with the same provider to maintain continuity.

Is respite care covered by the Regional Center?

Yes. Respite services are commonly funded through the San Diego Regional Center. We work with your service coordinator to ensure respite hours are included in the individual's IPP.

What happens during a respite session?

That depends on the individual's interests and routines. Respite staff may accompany them on outings, engage in hobbies, prepare meals together, or simply provide companionship. We tailor every session to the individual's preferences.
