Independent Living Skills Training

Our Independent Living Skills Training program teaches the practical, everyday skills that form the foundation of a self-directed life. From cooking nutritious meals and managing a budget to navigating public transit and maintaining personal hygiene, we break each skill into manageable steps. Our patient, experienced trainers celebrate every milestone and adjust their approach to match each learner's pace and style.

  • Cooking, nutrition planning, and kitchen safety instruction
  • Budgeting, money management, and responsible financial habits
  • Personal hygiene routines and self-care strategies
  • Time management, scheduling, and organizational skills
  • Problem-solving and decision-making practice in real-world settings

Community Integration

True independence extends far beyond the walls of home. Our Community Integration services help individuals build meaningful relationships, explore interests, and participate fully in the vibrant San Diego community. We facilitate connections to social groups, recreational programs, volunteer opportunities, and employment pathways that align with each person's passions and strengths.

  • Social skills coaching and supported community outings
  • Connections to local clubs, classes, and recreational activities
  • Volunteer and pre-employment exploration opportunities
  • Relationship-building support and peer networking
  • Advocacy training to help individuals self-advocate in community settings

Behavioral Support Services

Our Behavioral Support Services are grounded in compassion and evidence-based practice. We work collaboratively with individuals and their support teams to understand the root causes of challenging behaviors and develop proactive, positive strategies. Rather than focusing on compliance, our approach prioritizes emotional regulation, communication, and quality of life so that every person can engage with the world on their own terms.

  • Comprehensive functional behavior assessments
  • Individualized positive behavior support plans
  • Crisis prevention and de-escalation training for support staff
  • Collaboration with therapists, psychiatrists, and SDRC service coordinators
  • Ongoing data collection and plan refinement to ensure effectiveness

Respite Care

Caring for a loved one is deeply rewarding, but every caregiver needs time to recharge. Our Respite Care services provide families and primary caregivers with a trusted, compassionate break—whether for an afternoon, a weekend, or a planned vacation. During respite, individuals receive the same high-quality, person-centered support they would in our other programs, so families can step away knowing their loved one is safe, engaged, and happy.

  • Flexible scheduling for planned or short-notice respite needs
  • In-home or community-based respite options
  • Trained, background-checked staff matched to the individual's needs
  • Engaging activities and outings during the respite period
  • Detailed updates provided to families upon their return

Transportation & Mobility

Getting where you need to go shouldn't be a barrier to living your best life. Our Transportation & Mobility services ensure individuals can reliably reach medical appointments, day programs, social events, grocery stores, and more. We also provide travel training to help individuals learn to navigate public transit independently—opening up a world of freedom and spontaneity.

  • Door-to-door transportation for medical and therapeutic appointments
  • Rides to day programs, community events, and social activities
  • Public transit training and travel route planning
  • Support with obtaining bus passes, paratransit eligibility, and ride-share apps
  • Wheelchair-accessible vehicle options available

Understanding who qualifies and how services are funded.

Who Qualifies?

  • Adults aged 18 and older with developmental disabilities
  • Individuals diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • Current clients of the San Diego Regional Center (SDRC)
  • Individuals transitioning from family homes, group homes, or other care settings

How SDRC Funding Works

Our services are funded through the San Diego Regional Center (SDRC), which means there is no out-of-pocket cost to eligible individuals and families.

SDRC coordinates and funds services for individuals with developmental disabilities throughout San Diego and Imperial counties. As a vendored provider, we work directly with your SDRC service coordinator to create and implement your support plan.

If you are not yet connected to SDRC, we can help guide you through the intake process to determine eligibility and begin accessing services.
